Gibbs headset

(no subject)

I slept.. really... 3 hours is sleep... honest... >.>

trying to finish off 'the Client' I have a bit less than a hundred pages left to read now. But yeah this is what I've been doing when awake and not at the computer or anywhere else in the house - reading books. Really last day of 'freedom' of sorts, classes start tomorrow, so I'll have to kick into high gear.

Yet to buy the books, I've downloaded the powerpoint slides for Java though. not sure if I'm going to buy the book for that (ain't throwing out a hundred bucks, I don't have that kinda money right now...) and I think my 'Java : how to program' by Deitel and Deitel will do the trick for most part.

Not sure for HCI if I'll need the book or not. Spoken to Ghassan yesterday, he said not everything will be from the book; so I'm not sure if i need that one. I'll have to take a look at the subject outlines.

wow talk about... wandering off...this thing's been lying here for hours now, I forgot to press the little "Update" button... :: headdesk::
Gibbs not pleased

ISP must die.... or get a brain

Came home from work around 2130... I swear it's like it's been WAITING for me to come home so it can start dropping the connection... one hour == 8 times... reset the gateway...fiddled with settings, made sure firewall's not blocking anything. re-connected, have trouble browsing the net but everything's fine when it comes to checking e-mail or IRC...ping a few sites, it's fine.. go to said sites, it's not doing anything! Won't plain go there...then drops the connection after a while.. I re-connect, works fine for about a minute, then same thing...

Am able to do a tracert, and a ping -t so it's not as if it's dropping packets somewhere in the middle...

Finally call up ISP...

:: headdesk :: they've got a new answering system up....

first thing you get "Arabic - press one, english press 2" -- 2's my choice there.. duh

second thing you get "special offers and promotions - press one (how does THAT get priority over customers' queries, I dont' know...) , home solutions - press 2, office solutions - press 3." - I'm at home, so press 2 there too...

then you get "obtain your bill - press one, find out how you can improve this os that - press 2, something else that very few people will choose - press 3, get us to fax you something or other - press four, speack to a customer rep - press 5" - obviously press five there...

then I get "enter your customer account number" *headdesk* I'll be darned if I knew that one... I know the username... never actually got the customer account number, though they're probably on the bills, but it's the username they go by usually....

So I fetch a card with the username and all relevant details, account number field's empty but there's a printed number on the bottom, I take a wild guess that's the account number... I call back, go through the tons of options again, enter the number. Get a choice to speak to a customer rep, and a few other choices I was impatient to listen to, so i stab one...

Ten minutes of waiting, the guy picks up. I tell him the problem. He's like "what's your account number" Um.. I just entered it into the dang phone system thing... "Yes I know but we have to verify it" oh what I can have someone else calling tech support for me?! give him the number again, he's like 'that's not the account number' funny.. system let me in... must be a bug.. hehe.. give him my username, that works...

Anyways..again tried most everything .. told him I tried a tracert on a couple of sites.. I swear, sometimes, I WILL bash them in.. the reply I get "what's that?" ::beats head onna wall:: you're the tech support you tell me.... I'm the customer you're supposed to help me figure out a solution not me sitting here teaching you what's what...

Is the proxy enabled? yes.
can you disable it and try again? what are you using? oh FireFox, that's the problem. Try IE.
How about I try bashing it over your head instead? There's nothing wrong with FireFox.
No well.. I don't know much about it.
You dont' know much about anything, do you....? I know FireFox, and it's not a problem. Don't start assuming it is a problem just because you dont' know the first thing about it...
Well... try a netstat...
thank Goodness you know what THAT is...
too many ports open, you got spyware on there..
Dude.. I know almost every single one of those ports... none of them are spyware, plus I scan my system several times a week using two different softwares, and as per last checkup last night I've had no spyware...
well.. what modem are you using... Linksys... did you buy it from us? No. have you checked with the manufacturer, maybe it's them.
Dude, is it ever YOUR fault?!
Sometimes....if it's not the customer's fault...
but since 97% of your customers are morons, you blame them because it's easier to do..can you reset the line?
I don't see the need in that.
You don't see the need in that when a customer asks you to do it? I see how you value your customers.. course you being a monopoly.....I guess you CAN say "kiss my @$$" to a customer and they won't be able to do much against you....

and on and on for about half an hour there... I think the line's more stable now after the reset, but yeah..

::adds the guy who doesn't know what a tracert is to the guy who doesn't know what ping is along with the guy who think IE is safe to use... :: I gotta write a book about this sometime..
